Third year students and twin brothers, Mr Steffen and Mr Rudolph Wies, and Mr Mahomed Osman, are in the semi-finals of the CFO Case Study Competition.
This year’s competition attracted 1 278 entrants from 53 universities in 25 countries throughout the world.
The Accounting competition is organised by the CharterQuest Institute and CharterCapital Advisory TeamSA - a committee of CIMA and ACCA students at the Institute with global case study competition experience - and South Africa’s Barclays-sponsored CIMA2015 Global Business Challenge Champions (GBC).
To secure their spot in the Top 6, the UKZN team under the mentorship of Financial Lecturer, Ms Salma Vanker, had to deliver a 15 minute video presentation reporting on their recommendations to a judging panel.
Now, to move on to the next stage of the competition, the team has to produce a video giving information about themselves. The public will then vote on the best video, and the team with the most votes will receive a two point advantage in the semi-finals. The team will fly to Johannesburg to present their recommendations live in front of the judges after which the top three will compete in the final round.
