College of Law and Management Studies

Third-year Bachelor of Commerce in Supply Chain and Marketing student, Ms Kwanele Motha has published her first book.

The self-published work of fiction titled Dark Secrets tells the tale of a young girl, daughter of a well-known business man who is involved in an accident, resulting in memory loss. She is sent overseas by her family and joins the entertainment industry. On her return home, she still remembers nothing and no one, which for her family is a good thing as these memories might destroy the family.

‘My inspiration came from wanting to find a place where I could escape. Writing gave me that. Many people also said I couldn’t do it and I wanted to prove them wrong,’ said Motha.

‘I have always felt alive putting my thoughts on paper and dreamt of sharing my writing with the world. To finally have it out there is both exciting and scary,’ she added.

Apart from being a student and author, Motha mentors in the BCOM-4 foundation programme under the College of Law and Management Studies’ Teaching and Learning Unit. She also participates in outreach programmes where she and other students visit high schools to offer teaching and guidance.

She says she is excited about this chapter of her life and will use the knowledge she has gained in class to market her book.
