The UKZN Graduate School of Business and Leadership recently hosted a seminar on Organisational Strategy.

Presented by Mr Teboho Mokoena, Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife Managing Executive, the seminar was organised by Dr Bhasela Yalezo, lecturer in Marketing, Economics for Local Economic Development practitioners and Organisational Strategy.

The seminar was intended to expand the students’ and UKZN community’s knowledge of strategy formulation, strategy execution and equip them with knowledge that will enable them to facilitate strategy sessions.

The seminar was also meant to build a strong collaboration between UKZN (GBSL) and industry as one of the classes in 2019 will be hosted at Ezemvelo.

Yalezo, said he felt it important to invite an expert who is already part of the planning, development and execution of strategic operations for 321 of the Ezemvelo’s Ecotourism resorts and who is conducting regular research on sales and marketing. ‘The seminar for ideal for the Masters in the leadership class, a strategy is part of visionary leadership,’ said Yalezo.

The focus of Mokoena’s presentation was on strategic crafting, strategy execution, strategy facilitation, communication from practical perspectives using Ecotourism as well as other marketing fields as examples.

Mokoena stressed the significance of strategic planning for organisations saying that ‘strategic planning provided an organisation with a sense of direction and outlines measurable goals, thus assisting on guiding day to day decisions. According Mokoena, strategies have been long used to achieve the desired outcome; referring to military strategies as a general example to illustrate his point.
