Reyanka Headed for World Sports Tour

Third-year BCom Supply Chain and Marketing student, Ms Reyanka Kisten, will soon jet off to Austria and Italy to represent the country in the World Snow Volleyball Tour.

She said: ‘Upon receiving the news that I was one of four females selected to represent my country, I was overwhelmed with joy. Travelling to both Austria and Italy to play a sport I love and have so much passion for, seems surreal. I had to read the congratulatory letter a few times before it actually sunk in.’

She started taking volleyball seriously in Grade 11, where she went on to captain the first team for her school. She later joined the UKZN volleyball club in her first-year, which is where she discovered her passion for the sport and truly developed as a player. Last year, she made the first national team and captained the Under 20 team at the BRICS games.

‘These opportunities and experiences have shown me that with the right amount of hard work and dedication, you can achieve anything you set your mind to,’ Kisten said.

‘Volleyball is probably one of the most challenging things I have taken on in my life. There’s so many skills and techniques. What instilled my passion for volleyball was the challenge it brought and the fact that I could see results in my personal growth,’ she added.

Secretary General of Volleyball South Africa, Donovan Nair, said: ‘We extend our good wishes to her and know that Reyanka will fly the nation’s flag proudly on the global stage.’

Snow volleyball is a new sport to South Africa Kisten is excited to learn all about it and bring back the knowledge to share it with everyone at home.
