WORKSHOP OVERVIEW
The workshop will explore the emerging role of Generative AI and Agentic AI in academic research, with particular attention to how these technologies can support knowledge discovery, research analysis, scholarly productivity, and complex research workflows. The session will also consider the importance of human judgement, research integrity, and responsible use of AI in doctoral research.
BIOGRAPHY OF THE SPEAKER
Dr Hemachandran Kannan is the Director of the AI Research Centre and Vice Dean at Woxsen University, where he also serves as Chair and Professor of Data Science and AI. His areas of expertise include Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Deep Tech, AI Governance and Responsible AI, Business Analytics, Natural Language Processing, Computer Vision, Autonomous Robotics, and higher education transformation.
He has extensive experience in academic leadership, research, industry–academia collaboration, and international engagement. He has served as a UNESCO Expert, European Commission Tech Expert, EIC Accelerator Evaluator, AI 2030 Global Fellow, and ATL Mentor of Change, and has contributed as an advisor and advisory board member to international organisations and technology companies.
As Director of the AI Research Centre, he leads multidisciplinary research and innovation in AI/ML, NLP, Robotics, Blockchain, product engineering, AI governance, and applied AI solutions. His research and innovation portfolio includes work across healthcare, agriculture, aviation, education, finance, smart cities, and responsible AI.
He has authored and edited 25 books and has made significant academic and research contributions across Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Business Analytics, IoT, and related emerging technologies.
He has also undertaken international academic and professional engagements, including a postdoctoral research position at the University of St. Thomas, USA, and visiting professor and professional speaking roles internationally.
