Virtual Open Day 2021

Professor Brian McArthur

Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Head of College

Dear Prospective Students

It is with great pleasure that we welcome you all to this year’s Open Day for the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) and specifically to the College of Law and Management Studies. My name is Professor Brian McArthur, Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the College of Law and Management Studies.

We are a year into living with the Corona Virus  which has made us realise how fragile normality is and presented challenges that tested our ability to adapt and innovate . When the class of 2020 and 2021 started their academic journey, they never imagined that it would be concluded in the midst of the novel coronavirus pandemic. As we continually adapt to living in this new normal, as the College of Law and Management Studies, we stand ready to provide the necessary support that will enable you to grow socially and intellectually during your time at UKZN.

The College of Law and Management Studies is one of the four Colleges that form the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN). It consists of four Schools:

  • The School of Law
  • School of Accounting, Economics and Finance
  • The School of Management, IT and Governance; and
  • The Graduate School of Business and Leadership.

In order to ensure success during these unprecedented circumstances brought on by COVID-19 , the College launched the remote multimodal teaching and learning solution in June 2020. As well as a streamlined research portfolio adapting to the remote learning mode, while continuing to provide leadership and services to the research community.

As always, the professional services sector remained the essential backbone for academic activities – the College of Law and Management Studies’ team has a lot to be proud of in terms of achievements. Together with the various programmes, rules and guidelines contained in the College Handbook, these initiatives are intended to assist and support students during their time at UKZN.

We encourage all of our students to make use of these College-based support mechanisms, and when in need, to ensure that he/she seeks the necessary assistance. We are here to support and guide you as we want all of our students to have an enjoyable, successful and productive time at our University.

We look forward to  welcoming  you to the UKZN family and to walking this journey with you —   from being an optimistic undergraduate and postgraduate student with a goal of attaining a qualification to a UKZN graduate.
