As part of National Library Week, Dolsden Oracle – a company formed by postgraduate students from the College of Law and Management Studies – donated 250 books to Clermont Library. The community outreach initiative was a result of the collaboration between Dolsden Oracle, the United Nations and UKZN.
PhD in Commerce candidate and Dolsden Oracle’s Project Manager, Mr Sakhile Dlamini, said studying at UKZN’S Westville campus meant residing with relatives in Clermont and spending many hours at the library.
‘Clermont Library became my home away from home and also opened my eyes to the need for academic books that children can use as study support material. Helping people from less privileged backgrounds succeed is what we are passionate about. Such initiatives take precedence in everything we do as a young and Black-owned company,’ Dlamini said.
Clermont Library Manager, Mr Bongani Hlengwa expressed his gratitude on behalf of the Clermont community. ‘This is a great example of how public and private sector institutions can unite to empower the societies they operate and reside in. Our library has just been renovated and with this book contribution, it is ready to serve the community,’ he said.
Dolsden Oracle’s Managing Director, Mr Luyanda Ngundze, said this was the company’s first out-reach initiative and that they are looking forward to embarking on many similar ventures in the future.
