Recipient of the UKZN 50th Anniversary Award, third-year student Ms Natasha Robinson is following in her brother’s footsteps with the aim of becoming a chartered accountant.
Robinson is currently in her third year towards obtaining the Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting.
She said, ‘I chose the chartered accountant route because it’s something that I’ve found interesting since high school and seeing my brother excel at the degree encouraged me to pursue it.’
Robinson’s proud brother, Mr Aaron Robinson graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting and a Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting from UKZN in 2020. He is currently serving as an Audit Trainee at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC).
He said he wasn’t surprised by his sister’s achievement, noting that she had always excelled in her studies. ‘I am confident she will far surpass me, and have no doubt she will accomplish extraordinary things,’ he said.
Robinson revealed that her biggest challenge had been securing financial support. The scholarship will allow her to focus on completing her degree and free her parents of the financial burden.
‘My mom is the sole breadwinner in our household and this scholarship alleviates a lot of pressure.’
She said her family is very grateful to the University and proud of her for earning the scholarship. ‘I am also very thankful to UKZN.’
