Standard Bank recently visited honours and final year students within the School of Accounting, Economics, and Finance at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) in a bid to foster financial awareness among students.
The event was spearheaded by UKZN alumnus, Ashveer Chalithar, a Bachelor of Business Science graduate, who now holds a significant role within Standard Bank’s Private Banking Acquisitions sector. The initiative’s primary goal was to equip students and young professionals with essential financial knowledge, empowering them to navigate the complexities of financial wellness in their personal and professional lives.
Chalithar covered a range of real-world financial concepts, emphasising the importance of financial literacy as students prepare to transition from academia into the working world.‘As young professionals, Standard Bank provides opportunities for young professionals to network with stakeholders through the events and partnerships it has which nowadays, is a key element enhancing their professional growth through meeting like-minded people and opens doors to new career prospects,’ he said
One of the key aspects of this talk was the focus on the benefits of private banking, particularly for young professionals, such as personalised financial advice and investment opportunities, which provides a head start in building, and managing their wealth effectively.
‘Standard Bank offers a comprehensive suite of tools and resources to help young professionals develop a strong financial foundation. This includes guidance on budgeting, saving, and investing, as well as more advanced financial planning strategies’ he said
In closing, he said, ‘As an alumnus, it has always been my wish to help those who come after me in terms of financial wellness. It feels like a full circle moment, making contributions to an institution that has shaped me.’
