UKZN academics and postgraduate students presented their research at the Conference on Global Trends in Management, Information Technology and Governance in an e-World (e-MIG 2023) held in Mauritius from 26-27 October under the theme: Resilience, Innovation and Management in a Turbulent Environment.
The multidisciplinary annual conference is a joint initiative of the College of Law and Management Studies and the Open University of Mauritius. Its roots lie in a casual conversation between Dr Upasana Singh of UKZN and Dr Govin Appavoo of the Open University in 2015.
It aims to bring together academics and researchers from a range of disciplines to showcase global trends in an e-World and serve as a platform for the development of leadership, capacity, and scholarship in the African region. The 2023 MIG conference focussed on the impact of COVID-19 and the need for a sustainable worldview.
Attended by 72 delegates from academia business and government, the hybrid conference included attendees from South Africa, Mauritius, Croatia, Germany and other African countries, rendering this an opportunity to promote African scholarship.
The conference offered a platform for collaboration, networking, and scholarship across the Disciplines of Law, Management, Governance, and Information Technology that was evident in the interesting range of topics covered. It also offered an opportunity to young emerging academics to engage in debate with leading scholars, industry players and government officials.
e-MIG 2023 attracted 102 abstract submissions, of which 68 will be published in the Book of Abstracts and 12 full papers in the conference proceedings.
Singh who was one of the organisers said, ‘eMIG 2023 was a success and it was graced by the Vice-President of Mauritius, the Director of International Affairs from the Ministry of Higher Education and the High Commissioner of South Africa to Mauritius. There was excellent participation from UKZN colleagues who attended in person and gave compelling presentations.’
