The College of Law and Management Studies (CLMS) hosted a Postgraduate Open Day to provide prospective students with valuable insights into different programmes on offer and a chance to interact with alumni and academic and administrative staff.
The event on the Pietermaritzburg and Westville campuses saw a diverse group of individuals eager to learn more about the postgraduate courses. The highlight of the day was a panel discussion featuring esteemed alumni of the Schools of Law, Accounting, Economics and Finance, Management, Information Technology and Governance and the Graduate School of Business and Leadership who highlighted the practical knowledge and skills they gained during their time at the Institution which helped them excel in their careers. They highlighted the College’s strong emphasis on practical training and its industry connections, which enabled them to smoothly transition to the professional world.
Chief Director for Infrastructure Development at the KwaZulu-Natal Health Department, Mr Mbongiseni Gcaba, a Master of Business Administration graduate, reflected on his journey: ‘I do not regret coming back to UKZN and obtaining this qualification. I have more confidence and have been able to change my portfolio in terms of what I used to do and what I do now. I could relate to the culture and everything that UKZN encompasses.’
South African Institute of Chartered Accountants trainee trailblazer finalist, Mr Yasheen Jugdawooh, an Audit Manager at Deloitte with a Bachelor of Commerce Honours in Accounting, said: ‘My qualification allowed me to integrate my technical skills obtained through UKZN with my professional skills obtained through world-class training provided by Deloitte to becoming a holistic business leader underpinned by ethical conduct.’
Director: Pam and Partners Inc., Ms Pamella Mlonzi spoke about her transition from Social Sciences to Master of Laws (LLM) – Business Law after pursuing postgraduate studies. She stressed that students should explore the world and not stay in one place after completing their studies. She pursued an LLM in order to ‘broaden the scope of my understanding and fundamental principles of business Law, so that I would know how to protect business interests.’
Information tables at the venues provided a comprehensive overview of postgraduate programmes, including details about curricula, admission requirements and career prospects.
