Excelling in accounting and maths in high school and choosing to study Business Science at UKZN combined to be the key to a successful career for Durban Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s Manager of Policy and Advocacy Mr Yolan Nagoor.
‘I had a passion for business during my schooling years,’ said Nagoor, ‘and when I discovered the Bachelor of Business Science degree at UKZN, my mind was set on working towards it. Fast forward and I now have that qualification!’
Without question, UKZN was his institution of choice. ‘I had an incredible journey through the University – it was hard work but very rewarding with lecturers and support staff always ready to assist. My advice to those wanting to study for a tertiary qualification is to always be determined and give it your all,’ he said.
In addition to playing an important role in his occupation in assisting to promote partnership approaches to complex problematic issues affecting businesses, Nagoor also serves on professional bodies, including being a member of the Global Shapers Durban Hub and Hub Finance Officer- an initiative of the World Economic Forum. He is registered with the Property Practitioners Regulatory Authority, serves as a radio Presenter at Good News Community Radio and is actively involved in his local church.
‘I am constantly working towards developing myself as an individual and hope to soon read for a master’s degree.’
