As part of its commitment to facilitate global academic collaboration and enrich educational experiences, the School of Management, Information Technology and Governance (SMIG) at UKZN has welcomed Professor Peter Lewa of the Technical University of Kenya as a visiting professor until September.
Hailing from Nairobi, Lewa is a distinguished scholar with an impressive academic record. He holds a PhD in Development Administration and a Master’s in Development Finance, both from the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom; a BCom (Hons) degree from the University of Nairobi, and several postgraduate qualifications in Marketing, Supply Chain Management, and Leadership. His professional experience includes research, teaching, consulting, and working in the public and private sectors.
Lewa brings a wealth of knowledge, diverse cultural perspectives, and innovative teaching methods to the School and will contribute to strategic management and management expertise. He is expected to assist the School to implement the UKZN 10-year Strategic Plan (2023-2032).
He said that he plans to organise workshops and seminars ‘that will create a collaborative learning environment for teachers and students. This will make research easier and enjoyable and enhance their capacity in their respective fields.’ He offers an African and global perspective that will promote recognition of diversity in the University community.
Given his specialisation in business, particularly management and strategy, Lewa plans to create ‘frameworks to develop short courses that cater to executives, industry experts, and different organisations in different sectors. These courses will be tailored to address important areas such as leadership, management, business analytics and big data, and are likely in the near future to be offered in collaboration with other universities and institutions outside South Africa.’
Apart from teaching, his visit presents exciting research opportunities for the School. His vast experience and knowledge will contribute to ongoing research projects and further exploration. The visiting professorship will also encourage collaboration between UKZN and business and establish lasting partnerships for future academic pursuits.
